Be a Patriot, Wear a Mask
In the Pandemic I created a PSA to encourage conservative groups to wear masks to help prevent the spread of covid. We framed the action of wearing a mask as a patriotic act; when you help your fellow man, you help your country. It was distributed by state health departments in conservative regions as well as by veterans groups throughout the country.
About The Process
During the first winter of the Pandemic as the virus surged for a second time, I was commissioned to create a PSA to convince conservative groups to wear a mask. We realized that by shifting the narrative of patriotism from individualism to the collective good, we had an in-road to reshaping these groups perspective's.
I have family members that serve in the military, so I interviewed them about the stories of their service as well as their thoughts on what each of us can do to help our communities through difficult times.
After shooting the interview, I worked with the team at Straight Shot Post, where I was interning at that time, to bring it through post-production. In addition to a two and a half minute hero-video, we created sixty and thirty second cut-downs for all platforms.
I did research and outreach to health departments and veterans groups in majority-conservative communities and provided them with the materials.
